YUVVRAAJ Music Review.... An Epitome Of Orchestra!!!

Veteran bollywood movie maker Subhash Ghai who carries a superlative adjective "Showman Of Bollywood" is back to his best known buisness after a brief hiatus and few duds. His latest offering to the bollywood is "Yuvvraaj". This time he's pulled out the best team in the buisness: be it in casting Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor or roping in the unarguably one of the best music composer in this part of world Mr. A R Rahman or by including the man with a magical poems Gulzar saab. It seems as though that Subhash doesnt want to take any kind of risks in any of the departments. Well, without complaining, here's a 'straight-from-the-heart' musical review of this movie.

"Main Hoon Yuvvraaj"....

thus begins the album in the voice of Salman Khan himself and its a kind of mouthing dialogues of self characterization rather than belting out ragas. Its main highlight is the inspiration drawn from the 5th Beethoven Symphony which has mind stirring orchestration. Rahman shows his humble side by worthily crediting the troupe. No one could have done justice to mouth dialogues for Salman.. overall a nice selection of voice and mindblowing inspiration!!! The track ends with Salman commanding(sorts of) his Jaan-e-man to listen to his voice...!!!

" Tu Hi Toh Meri Dost Hain"....

is the foremost track of the album and begins with an absolute bang!! The song begins with a high octaved humming by the current hot favourite in Rahman's dynasty, Benny Dayal. He ends his humming and there's this unexpected pleasant shock. Thats the Voilins and Cellos creating a huge impact upon the listener and making heart throb like heavens!!! Its all Benny's works in the initial mukdhas and makes full use of it. His "Awaaz Hoon Main........" towards the end of the mukhda is scintillating enough. The sugary voiced Shreya Ghoshal grabs another song from the maestro this time and shares the magnaphone. Her lines begin only in the Antara as "Raat Mein Chandni Kabhi...." . Its clear that her range is way below the range of her male counterpart and she in her octaves delivers in an apt way. The interludes are majestically inspiring and takes to a new world. Its after the maestro A .R Rahman himself steps in to complete this melody, the song takes a different shape altogether. Shreya and Rahman compete each other to finish their lines and Rahman has come down to Shreya's range and delivers in an unsually low pitch! One wishes the maestro himself could have sung another version of the same song.! A chartbuster duet song of this year...!!!!

"Tu Muskura Jahaa Bhi Hai Tu Muskuraaa..."

is undoubtedly my personal pick of the album. Mesmerized to such an extent that all praises would fail to do justice. Many would disagree with me if they have heard this song just a couple of times. This song needs more and more hearing to feel the heavenly effect. A special pat on Gulzarji's back for astounding lyrics. "Shareer Se Yeh Muskurahate Teri....Badan Main Sunti Hoon Main AahateTeri...." Wahh... words captivating there! Alka Yagnik finally found an award winning song of the year to her kitty. Having lessened her work now, she needs to go for quality songs which she's done perfectly here. Rahman has completely utilized Alka's sheer skills and brought out the magic. The interludes are predominantly rich with cellos and voilins again and brings back the "Tu Meri Dost.." melody through a mandolin piece. Similarly one can hear "Tu Muskura.." voilin piece in "Tu Meri Dost.."..!!! So both the songs shake hands this way. Javed Ali who was stunningly noticed in "Jashn-E-Bahara" earlier this year returns hear with less number of lines. One can easily term it as Alka Yagnik song until Javed Strikes with his jet speed gamakas through the end of the song while Alka hums her lines hauntingly. Very Outrageous Melody...!!!!

"Mast Mast Dar Mastam..."

sets in the mood to play some witty games. The lyrics sound quite bizzarre but gel completely with the mood of the song. Can Gulzarji please tell the meanings of "Hastam" , "Mastam", "Shustam"..et al???? Sonu Nigam's wittyness comes out in this song very casually and sounds really good. The chorus male singers are Benny Dayal and Naresh Iyer. Wonder whatever happened to Naresh suddenly...not found in the mainstream this year. Alka Yagnik joins this witty team of male singers and does a neat cameo job. She's got very few lines to sing in here. The song's background is very unrest kind. Lots of zarry sounds come and go which can be found out only when the song is visualised. Having said that, this song is very situational one which may be enjoyed two times better when its seen on the screen. Subhash Ghai himself makes an attempt to carry off the mood by mouthing "Dur Dur Rustam Shustam Hastam Hastam..." A completely entertaining song..!!!

"Shano Shano...Get On The Floor..."

is completely a retro- dance party song. The beats , the chorus, the mood...everything pulls you back to the disco generation of 80's . Rahman goes to the extreme level of experimentation. Also the genre he choses in brings a lots of fresh breather to all his fans eagerly waiting for a party genre song from him. Continuing his trend of pulling in a multitude singers in one song after a overwhelming sucess of "Jaane Tu...Ya Jaane Na", Rahman ropes in Sonu Nigam, Srinivas, Karthik, Blaaze and a newbie Tina into this party song. This essentially has to be picturized upon Zayed Khan in the movie. May not be an instant connector with the audience. But its worth to be applauded for its mindblowing retro effect. Once it grows on, there's no way detaching from it! A Rocking Retro...!!!!

"Zindagi Zindagi..."

is a silent breath-taker among all the songs here. Surprising to hear a fullfledged solo Rahman hindi song from the sweet voice of Srinivas. And the result is absolute outrageous melody! Hearing him in this song for the very first time, a feel of missing the velvette Hariharan strikes the mind, but later on u wish Srinivas had more such songs to offer hindi audiences before. He is the real hero of the song though Rahman makes one of his best melodical scores. The interludes are very haunting and makes the listener elated with sweet memories. Srinivas rendition and Gulzar's poetry stand out tall here. A haunting melody..!!!!

"Manmohini Morey..."

brings out a never heard before or rarely heard voice of Vijay Prakash, a reality show winner, going the Hindustani way to the core. The music is a perfect blend of the classical and western regae genres. Can be touted as Rahman's one of the best fusion track in his career! The raaga used instantly captures you and refuses to die down for a long time. All classical wannabes can relish upon this and rejoice. The best fusion track..!!!

" Dil Dil Mil Jaane De...Dil Ka Rishta..."

can what be best desribed as "An Epitome Of Orchestra". What an orchestration!! It may be probably even become the theme of Yuvvraaj. Since its a movie about relationships, this song can best bring out that emotion. Roopkumar Rathod, Sonu Nigam, A R Rahman, Benny Dayal and Vivaine Chaix form a terrific combo here and sing in chorus too. Its interesting change made by Rahman to include mainstream singers in the chorus part. One can hear only Sonu's and Roopkumar's voices predominantly here. Rahman limits himself to his distinguished rendering of fast sargams in a very peculiar way. What a command he has ...!!! The cellos, voilins, pianos all make this orchestra an absolute grand!! A special pat on Gulzarji's back for this too.! A lavish orchestra...!!!!

So, on the whole, Yuvvraaj's musical performance is something which the audience would remember for a very very long time. Kudos to A R Rahman for churning out such a composed and elegant soundtrack album after the witty and wild Jaane Tu....Ya Jaane Na!!! Just hope the movie lives upto its expectations. The BGMs are bound to be haunting...!!! Definetly recommended album for all tastes...!!!!
